BATHROOM PAST AND PRESENT

The habit, to lower themselves into cold or hot water or to drop it on, was quite common to all ancient people, like the Egyptians, the inhabitants of Mesopotamia and the citizens of the ancient Rome. The first private and public baths, which were the largest center of social life, sprang up in Rome on the first century D.C. The bathroom (balneum) has a singular importance in the classical age, especially regarding the evolution of the architectural studies.

The interactions with oriental, northern and islamic cultures promoted the knowledge of the Arabic or Turkish baths (hamam), of the Russian bath (banja) and of the Far East customs.

The welfare of the populations in Western Europe during the Renaissance (XVI sec.) raised and produced in Europe a new building business towards the bathroom, which became even more artistic and decorated.

Italy had a great merit in this, considering that in England, during the seventeenth century, was still used the Italian word (bagno).

In 1775, during the Victorian age, in England, it was patented by the Londoner clockmaker Alexander Cummings the first wc of history that, even then, provided the use of siphon.

In the modern age the bathroom is completed and present in every home so great attention is dedicated to its furniture, combining style, functionality and quality.
